About Us

Since 1974, the South Valley Symphony has entertained its audiences with live classical and modern concerts. It has partnered with Opera San Jose to bring Opera to the Mission in San Juan Bautista and accompanied the choirs of Gilroy & Christoper High Schools and Gavilan College. It has spotlighted young musicians, giving them occasion to solo with the orchestra, and premiered scores conducted and composed by them.
The Symphony is a community orchestra whose mission is to make live symphonic music available for all ages and musical tastes. Music has the power to enable us to communicate our emotions and experiences non-verbally through sounds and rhythms. It is possible to communicate ideas and feelings with anyone in the world through music without the use of words. Symphony members feel so strongly about the power of music in this regard that they are passionate to attract and mentor young people ? and people of all ages for that matter ? so that all have opportunities to participate in the process of learning, playing, and listening to great music.
South Valley Symphony is also about the people who play in the orchestra. It is open to all qualified musicians from talented high school students to accomplished retirees depending on the current needs and openings within the orchestra. At the moment we are in need of musicians in all of our string sections, particularly first violins and violas. Anyone interested in joining the orchestra should visit http://www.southvalleysymphony.org/joinOrchestra. Concerts are performed at Gavilan College and Mission San Juan Bautista
